Finally a new blog entry!!

Well it has been a long hard summer and fall, filled with teaching math at summer school and then starting teaching math again at the local junior college in addition to my regular job as your Spanish teacher!

This year I hope we can really get off the ground with using our wikis to put a realistic spin on our language learning. Remember that when we post to the internet, whether here on the blog, on our own blog on MySpace or FaceBook, or on our wikis we use for school, we are speaking to the whole world. The WHOLE World!! As you see from the map on my wiki I get traffic from educators all over the world and that possibility exists for you too. So be sure to be safe above all.

NEVER use your full name. Use a user name and space name that is NOT your real name. If you give out personal information on anything you do for school you will lose your lab privileges for the rest of the year. Remember the user agreement you signed!

So have fun and use this incredible opportunity to learn a foreign language in an all new way....

See you in the lab,

Sra. Burden

My wiki is listed on a site in Spain!! How cool!

I really am happy now! The coolest thing just happened this week! Our Spanish class wiki, sraburden.wikispaces.com, was mentioned by a teacher who blogs on Web 2.0 themes in Spain. I have a live feed so can see who has looked at my wikispace, and earlier this week when I looked at it, there were lots of hits from Spain and from Brazil. And when I looked to see what site they had come from, many had come from aula21.net/aulablog21, which when I followed it, was Paco Munoz de la Pena's blog. I will include more of his really cool stuff later. It is late and I need to go to sleep! Check it out for yourself if you'd like!!

I REALLY wanted to go....

Man I was sooooo disappointed that I wasn't able to go to the CR2.0 LIVE education this upcoming weekend! :(

Of course, I found out about it a week and a half before and I tried to get funding for my flight and hotel, but alas, it was to no avail! Oh well.... I am working on setting up an event here in Texas, or even better, here in Killeen! Killeen ISD is already on the cutting edge of making engaging lessons, and the administration and school board are behind innovative teachers who want to bring education into the 21st century.... and I am one! So I believe that we will be able to do this.

But I really wanted to present the outstanding way my students are using wikispaces as a social network to share learning and to organize learning. they are doing a great job, and they have taught me a lot... see their work here.
